Currently sponsored by the Department of Romance Languages and the Latin American Studies Program at Bowdoin College, Dissidences was founded with the intention of filling a perceived vacuum in the scholarly study of Spanish and Latin American literatures and cultures —the study of theoretical perspectives and meta-critical thinking: how does contemporary theory, often originated outside the Spanish-speaking world, deal with Spain and Latin America? How is contemporary theory recreated, adapted, transformed and repositioned in order to address the specific problems of that complex universe? For this reason, Dissidences encourages the submission of articles that go beyond the mechanic limitation of “using” or “applying” standard theoretical models to the study of Spanish and Latin American literary and cultural topics. Our ideal articles are those that problematize this simplistic mechanism and complicate the relation between theory and our subjects of investigation.

Sobre la revista

Actualmente bajo el auspicio del Departamento de Lenguas Romances y el Programa de Estudios Latinoamericanos de Bowdoin College, Disidencias fue fundada con la intención de llenar lo que percibimos como un vacío en el estudio académico de las literaturas y las culturas de España y América Latina: el estudio de perspectivas teóricas y del pensamiento meta-crítico: ¿cómo es que la teoría contemporánea, con frecuencia originada fuera del mundo hispano, se enfrenta con los temas de España y América Latina? ¿Cómo es recreada, adaptada, transformada y resituada la teoría contemporánea para referirse a problemas específicos de ese complejo universo? Por tal motivo, Disidencias invita el envío de artículos que vayan más allá de las limitaciones mecánicas de “usar o “aplicar” modelos teóricos estándar al estudio de España y América Latina. Un artículo ideal para Disidencias es aquel que problematiza ese mecanismo simplista y hace visible la complejidad de la relación entre la teoría y nuestros objetos de investigación.
